Hamish Kerr, MD
Albany Med’s leading expert in sports medicine and exercise physiology, Hamish Kerr, MD is trained in both internal medicine and pediatrics. Originally from Scotland, he is an expert in the management of sports injuries, especially concussions.
Dr. Kerr is certified to use ImPACT, a research-based neuropsychological testing program that helps clinicians evaluate sports-related head injuries and is a standard tool for professional and college athletic teams across the country.
From college athletes to weekend warriors, Dr. Kerr prides himself on his thorough and empathetic approach to care. In addition to treating sports-related injuries, Dr. Kerr provides athletes advice and plans on reaching a heightened level of performance during sports and exercise.
Deborah Light, MD
Dr. Deborah Light is a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and is trained in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. She completed her Sports Medicine fellowship training at Albany Medical Center.
Dr. Light sees both adults and children for a wide variety of Sports related conditions, including concussions, musculoskeletal injuries, performance optimization and injury prevention. She is trained in the use of diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound, and is able to offer this safe and effective approach to her patients. She is trained in the use of ImPACT, a neuropsychological testing program for concussion assessment. She also provides gait analysis for running.
Dr. Light has worked with numerous college teams in the Capital region, including Siena College and the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she currently serves as a team physician. She also has an interest in martial arts and combat sports, and provides medical coverage for many of the local boxing and mixed martial arts venues.
Dr. Light covers local boxing matches as a ringside physician for USA Boxing, the national governing body for Olympic boxing. Her role as a ringside physician is to evaluate the athletes before and after the event, attend to any injuries and monitor the safety of the boxers.
