For 17th Year, Albany Med Named Consumer Choice Award  Winner

December 13, 2012 - Albany , NY

ALBANY, N.Y., December 13, 2012 ‹ For the 17th straight year, area residents have identified Albany Medical Center as their top choice for quality health care services with the Consumer Choice Award from the National Research Corporation. Albany Med is the only hospital in northeastern New York to receive this award.

"This award is always very special to Albany Med because it comes from people in our community," said James J. Barba, president and chief executive officer of Albany Medical Center. "To be honored with this award for 17 years now is a wonderful testimony to our staff's ongoing commitment to excellence and our focus on patient-centered care of the highest quality."

The National Research Corporation annually gives Consumer Choice Awards for the most preferred hospitals in more than 300 U.S. markets. To conduct the study, the NRC surveyed households in each of these markets throughout the nation, including households in this region. Winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings, including: best overall quality, best image and reputation, best doctors, and best nurses.

The National Research Corporation is an industry leader, with more than two decades of experience in health care performance measurement and improvement.

Albany Medical Center, northeastern New York's only academic health sciences center, is the largest private employer in the Capital Region. It incorporates the 651-bed Albany Medical Center Hospital, which offers the widest range of medical and surgical services in the region, and the Albany Medical College, which trains the next generation of doctors, scientists and other healthcare professionals,  and which also includes a biomedical research enterprise and the region's largest physicians practice with 325 doctors. Albany Medical Center works with dozens of community partners to improve the region's health and quality of life. For more information: or
