Dr. Malcolm Z. Roth Appointed Chief of Plastic Surgery

Albany, N.Y., October 13, 2011-Malcolm Z. Roth, M.D., F.A.C.S., has been named chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Albany Medical Center and professor of surgery at Albany Medical College. Dr. Roth was recently appointed president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), where he will be responsible for leading the world's largest organization of board-certified plastic surgeons and foremost authority on cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.
As chief of the division of plastic surgery, Dr. Roth oversees clinical and research activities as well as residency training. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has extensive experience in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. His special interests include cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast, body, face and hand as well as body contouring following significant weight loss.
A native of Long Island, Dr. Roth previously served as director of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center and director of the Division of Plastic and Hand Surgery at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn. Before coming to Albany, he maintained offices in Brooklyn and Manhattan. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed his general surgery training at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan. He then went on to complete a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center and a fellowship in hand and microsurgery from The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
In addition to serving as president, Dr. Roth has been a member of many ASPS committees including chairman of the Government Affairs Committee and vice president of Health Policy and Advocacy. He has also held numerous leadership positions in several professional societies, including president of the New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons, president of the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand, president of the New York County Medical Society, and chairman of the Plastic Surgery Section of the New York Academy of Medicine.
