The WIC Program provides low income families with food and education on nutrition and breastfeeding.
Kathy Patton, Albany Med WIC Practice Manager, said that breastfeeding produces healthy children, saves money and contributes to a cleaner environment.
"While the ice cream helps raise awareness and promote the benefits of breastfeeding throughout the WIC population, it also is a fun-filled way to praise our mothers and their breastfed babies, and get the dads and other family members involved too," Patton said.
In addition to the ice cream and other treats, the event also will include educational games, relevant exhibits by community partner organizations, and a variety of valuable door prizes for participants.
The food, prizes, and monetary donations towards expenses have been generously donated by a number of businesses including Stewarts Shops, Burts Bees, Price Chopper, Target, Wal-Mart, Honest Weight Food Co-op, barefootimagination.com, Shades of Light and Community Cradle.
