CIO George Hickman Receives Highest Honor from HIMSS

ALBANY, N.Y., August 3, 2012-George Hickman, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Albany Medical Center, has received the highest recognition awarded by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
Hickman, a nationally-recognized expert in healthcare information technology, will receive the Life Member Award in recognition of his service, professional participation, job experience, publications and presentations at a ceremony early next year. He is a past HIMSS board chair, has chaired its executive compensation committee, and has served on various work groups and committees over his 30-year membership.
Hickman is a frequent speaker and lecturer and has published extensively, including co-authoring The Healthcare IT Planning Fieldbook. He also is board chair-elect and a charter member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), and a CHIME Fellow.
He received the prestigious CHIME/HIMSS John E. Gall, Jr. CIO of the Year award in 2007, an honor widely recognized as a lifetime achievement award for a CIO in the healthcare IT industry.
Hickman, who is an HIMSS Fellow, has served Albany Med since 2003. He holds a BS and an MS in engineering from the University of Tennessee.
