Albany Medical Center Ranked #1 in Market by U.S. News & World Report
July 20, 2011 - Albany , NY
ALBANY, N.Y., July 20, 2011-Albany Medical Center has been ranked first in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy area in U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Hospitals 2011-2012 rankings. In addition, 10 specialties at Albany Med were listed as "high performing."
The high performing specialties include: cancer; diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology; geriatrics; gynecology; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; and urology.
"This honor further demonstrates the value of Albany Medical Center to this region," said James J. Barba, president and chief executive officer of Albany Medical Center. "Not only do families have the opportunity to receive the highest level of care close to home, they can find comfort in knowing that the care provided will be of exceptional quality-as declared by our region's own physicians."
U.S. News & World Report's regional hospital rankings, which covered 94 metro areas in the U.S., complement the national rankings by including hospitals with solid performance nearly at the level of nationally ranked institutions. The regional rankings are aimed primarily at consumers who may not be willing or able to travel long distances for medical care. The U.S. News metro rankings give many such patients and their families more options of hospitals within their community and in their health insurance network.
The survey took into account death rates, patient safety, procedure volume, and other objective data, as well as responses to a national survey whereby physicians were asked to name hospitals they consider best in their specialty for the toughest cases. The rankings are available online at www.usnews.com/besthospitals.
