July 30, 2013 - Albany , NY
ALBANY, N.Y., July 30, 2013 - Albany Medical Center today unveiled its new state-of-the-art Patient Pavilion that provides the most advanced care for virtually every condition with leading-edge operating suites, enhanced intensive care units, and spacious private rooms. ###
The facility will enable the Medical Center, which serves as the trauma center for a 25-county region, to provide the most advanced technology and techniques in an accessible setting to a growing number of patients, said Albany Med President and CEO James J. Barba. Since 2001, total inpatient admissions have increased by 42 percent, while transfers to Albany Med from other facilities have increased by 350 percent to 8,500.
"Albany Med's new building embodies a patient-centered experience that will allow our expert caregivers to provide the best care possible in a setting that will be ideal for patients and their families for many decades to come," Barba said. "This building reflects our commitment to be a lifeline for the nearly three million people in this region who depend on Albany Med's broad range of expertise, while also creating an environment that continues to attract world-class caregivers, students and researchers."
The Patient Pavilion, located at the corner of New Scotland and Myrtle Avenues, connects to the hospital and a 1,500-space parking garage. Among its highlights are:
* 20 state-of-the-art operating suites, including those with the most advanced robotic and hybrid technology
* An operating suite with an interoperative CT for spine and brain care, one of just five of its kind in the United States
* 60 new private medical/surgical beds
* 46 single and 5 double-occupancy neonatal intensive care rooms with Giraffe environment technology
* 30 additional adult intensive care beds
* New gardens and green spaces, and numerous windows to provide natural lighting and views for patients and families.
"As its name suggests, every facet of the Patient Pavilion was designed with the patient in mind," said Steven M. Frisch, M.D., executive vice president and hospital general director at Albany Med. "With advanced technologies and a space designed for patients, we are providing an advanced setting for patient safety and convenience, as well as the precision of the surgeries and techniques we offer."
Various operations of the hospital have started moving into the Patient Pavilion, and will continue to do so over the coming months. Information about the move and new directions for patients, including parking, is available on the Albany Medical Center website: www.amc.edu/expansion/latest_update/index.cfm.
