Dean Vincent Verdile Recognized With National Leadership Award

ALBANY, N.Y., May 31, 2013-Vincent Verdile, M.D., dean of Albany Medical College, has received the 2013 John Marx Leadership Award from the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM).

Named for the late John Marx, M.D., a leader in the field of emergency medicine, the award honors a member of SAEM who has made exceptional contributions to emergency medicine through leadership.

Dr. Verdile is the 17th dean of Albany Medical College, and the seventh-longest tenured dean of a United States medical college. He is widely published on a range of topics relevant to emergency medicine and has presented at numerous symposia and conferences. 

A 1984 graduate of Albany Medical College, he served as chief resident at the University of Pittsburgh and was appointed to the faculty. Shortly after his return to Albany in 1993, he was named chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and served in that role until appointed dean in 2001.   

Dr. Verdile also serves as executive vice president for health affairs at Albany Medical Center, where he oversees the biomedical research program, medical and allied professional education programs and the physician practice plan. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Verdile has served organizations at the local, state and national levels, including SAEM.  His service and leadership has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades.

SAEM is a professional organization for emergency medicine academicians dedicated to leading the advancement of emergency care through education and research, advocacy, and professional development in academic emergency medicine.
