What started as a grateful mom and dad looking for a way to give back has turned into eight seasons of fun on the golf course and more than $150,000 in support for the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.
Willie Miranda, owner of Miranda Real Estate, and his wife, Shari, turned to Albany Med for their then six-month-old daughter Julia, when “she was having high fevers. We didn’t know what was going on with her,” Mr. Miranda said.
Their family doctor sent them to a specialist at Albany Med, who diagnosed the cause of the fevers—reflux in her kidneys.
“They put her on an antibiotic to take care of it. That got her back to being a normal kid,” he remembered.
Mr. Miranda says he and his wife feared that their daughter would have to have surgery, a fear that was quelled by the treatment she received at Albany Med. He said his daughter’s caregivers were “professional and very kind.” Julia has since outgrown the kidney issue.

When the Miranda's Real Estate business was looking for a way to get involved in the community, the Children’s Hospital was on top of Mr. Miranda’s list—and continues to be there today. Recently, his team presented a $22,000 check from the 2013 golf outing, bringing the total raised by the annual September event to nearly than $150,000.
“As a young parent, I’ll never forget what we went through back then, Mr. Miranda said. "Having the Children’s Hospital so close and having that great service, I’ll never forget that.”
