Lane Closure on New Scotland Avenue Starts May 13

Beginning Monday, May 13, New Scotland Ave. between Holland Ave. and Myrtle Ave. will be reduced to one lane to allow for steel work on the new pedestrian bridge. The lane closure will be in effect nightly from 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. through Friday, May 24 (Note: no work will be conducted Thursday, May 16). Flag men will be on-site to maintain two-way traffic and access to the 60 New Scotland Ave. garage. If possible, please avoid traveling this route while construction is underway.

Work Continues ’Round the Clock on Patient Pavilion

In just a few months, Albany Med’s 325,000-square-foot Patient Pavilion will open to the public.

Come fall 2013, thousands of patients will cross a new bridge into a spacious welcoming area adjacent to a tree-filled outdoor healing garden—the gateway to 20 new operating rooms, more than 90 new private patient rooms and the area’s only critical care unit for newborns.

The outdoor Healing Garden will serve as a place of relaxation and rejuvenation for patients and their families.
While the pavilion waits to serve patients, work in and around it continues. The number of cranes and dump trucks in front of the building has decreased, but work still goes on 24/7. These days there is more action at the rear of the project, starting at the loading dock.

“We are scheduling deliveries off-hours, weekends, whenever possible,” said Don Stichter, Albany Med vice president of facility operations. “We’ll use our docks to get the equipment inside and then use our new elevators, which are now operational, to get to the Patient Pavilion.”
Work continues on the Patient Pavilion, on schedule for a fall 2013 opening.
The equipment and supplies will range from cabinets and beds to CT Scanners and specialized imaging equipment for the region’s exclusive hybrid surgical suite.  Providing the state-of-the-art care for which Albany Med is known requires the most up-to-date technology.

While the equipment arrives, crews inside the building will be finishing the walls and floors, painting and wiring—preparing a structure that will help Albany Med continue to be the answer to the health care needs of the region.

Main Entrances to the Medical Center
Pillars Entrance (M-Building)
The historic Pillars entrance is directly connected via an enclosed pedestrian bridge to Albany Med’s multi-level parking garage located on New Scotland Avenue — making parking and entry into the Medical Center easy and convenient.
(Patients undergoing surgery will have parking fees validated the day of surgery)

Physicians Pavilion Entrance (A-Building)
This entrance, located on the west end of the campus, offers FREE valet parking for patients and visitors. Wheelchairs are also available in the entrance way to assist those in need.

Emergency Department Entrance (D-Building)
The entrance to the Emergency Department remains open for emergency visits only. The entrance can be accessed from New Scotland Avenue by turning onto Myrtle Avenue and then immediately turning onto the ramp adjacent to the B-Building (new Patient Pavilion). Valet service is provided for those arriving by car. All other visitors should use either Parking Garage or the lot adjacent to the Physicians Pavilion.
