Michael Brown, MDMichael S. Brown, MD, distinguished chair at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and Nobel Laureate, is best known for his research with co-recipient Dr. Goldstein. The pair elucidated the cause of familial hyper-cholesterolemia, and discovered the low density lipoprotein receptor. Their breakthrough discoveries have formed a basis for the current widespread use of cholesterol-lowering statin drugs.

 

Joseph Goldstein, MDJoseph L. Goldstein, MD, distinguished chair at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and Nobel Laureate, has shared in many successful studies as a result of his collaboration with co-recipient Dr. Brown.
