Faculty Development Programs

Invested In Our Team

We are committed to the professional development of our faculty, as well as rewarding innovation and excellence, through our various faculty development programs.

Junior Faculty Development Program

The Junior Faculty Development Program is designed to enhance the academic and professional development of assistant professors through a yearlong curriculum focused on research, teaching, and leadership. The program is for all junior faculty including research scientists, clinician-scientists, and clinician-educators. Instructors are drawn from Albany Medical College faculty and educators from outside the institution.

An essential element of the program is the development of a scholarly project conducted with the guidance of a senior faculty mentor.

The Sosa Academy

The Sosa Academy of Medical Sciences recognizes excellence, rewards achievement, and promote innovation in the education of health professionals. Membership in the Academy is selective and recognizes outstanding contributions as an educator at Albany Medical College.

The Sosa Academy includes an endowed chair, as well as an endowed professorship to provide supplemental support to faculty who promote the ideals of Sosa by dedicating their time to educating medical students and residents. Endowed research funds also allow the College to appoint and support a clinical scientist and an academic leader dedicated to research in medical education.

Formation of the Sosa Academy

The Academy, whose goal is to train medical students to become compassionate and responsible, was made possible by a donation of $1.5 million to the College by entrepreneur Phil Morse. From their first meeting in 1969, Phil Morse and Julio Sosa, MD, collaborated on numerous cardiology projects including the development of the Morse Manifold and the Sosa Contrast Delivery System. After decades of collaboration, the two pioneers formed of the Sosa Academy.
