The Consortium

THE ALBANY MEDICAL COLLEGE AND ALBANY MEDICAL CENTER
As part of a major medical complex serving Northeastern New York, the Medical Center functions as a county hospital, admitting persons of varying backgrounds who present with a wide array of medical and psychiatric problems. Psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and medical students from Albany Medical College receive part of their training on the psychiatric inpatient unit, which is designed to provide short-term intervention for the severely emotionally disturbed adult. In addition, the Medical Center operates an outpatient psychiatry clinic in which psychotherapy and psychological assessment are emphasized (staffed by psychiatry residents and psychology interns).


CAPTIAL DISTRICT PSYCHIATRIC CENTER
The Capital District Psychiatric Center (CDPC), a modern and progressive treatment center, is operated by the Office of Mental Health of New York State. The Center serves a population of approximately one million people. It specializes in treating seriously and persistently mentally ill adults as well as providing outpatient services for children, adolescents, and their families.


SAMUEL S. STRATTON VA MEDICAL CENTER
As part of the VA Health Care Network of Upstate New York (VISN 2), the Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center's goal is to provide an integrated, accessible continuum of care for veterans from a twenty-county area. Functioning as part of the Center's Behavioral Health Careline, psychology staff provides consultation and psychological intervention for patients from inpatient and outpatient departments across all areas of the hospital.


THE CAMPUS
Although we are a consortium, we are fortunate that our facilities are contained within an educational campus near Albany's downtown area. All of our training sites are within a one to two block walking distance of each other. Throughout the day interns may move from one site to another; however, the maximum travel-time would be a ten-minute walk. Aside from the Albany Medical College, the Capital District Psychiatric Center, and the Stratton VA Medical Center, the campus includes Albany Law School, the Albany College of Pharmacy, the Axelrod Medical Research Institute, and the Downtown Campus of Russell Sage College.
