Albany Medical Center
PREP: Explanation of the Application
- If you are still in college, tell us your college address and how long you will be there so we don't mail stuff to you after you've left.
- If you're no longer in college, tell us your preferred contact information (address and telephone number, etc.)
- GRE Scores: If you have taken the GRE, tell us your scores. If you haven't taken the GRE, leave it blank. GRE scores are not required for admission to this program. In fact, GRE preparation classes are available as part of this program.
- Tell us if you are a Minority, or from a medically under-served population, and whether or not you are a citizen.
- Educational Plans After Undergraduate School: If you are still in college, tell us what you are thinking of doing immediately after college: "going to graduate school" "medical school" "both" "get a job for a while" Whatever. If you have already graduated, tell us what you are doing now.
- Long Term Career Goals: What would you like to be doing 15-20 years from now? Research? Medicine? Teaching? Law or other profession? Wait and see what comes up? Maybe tell us why you want to be doing that, or where (big city, small city, other?)
- Write a paragraph about your areas of research interest: If you have thought about what area of research might be of interest, let us know. Maybe you want to be a biochemist or a physiologist, or maybe you want to study cardiovascular sciences or cancer. Perhaps there is some specific disease of interest to you, or some techniques that seem fascinating. If you like, you can read about some of the ongoing research projects at the following website http://www.amc.edu/academic/research/ Any information at all would be helpful for us as we arrange to have you talk to some of our faculty.
- Personal Statement: Tell us a little about why you are interested in PREP: Addressing Health Disparities at Albany Medical College. Maybe you have identified some research projects that are of interest, maybe the Albany area works for you. Perhaps the emphasis on Health Disparities is of interest, or perhaps you met some of our participants and liked what you saw. Maybe you have some reason to believe that this particular program will help you achieve your goals better than some others. Anything that you think might help us understand your reasons for applying.
- "CHALLENGE" ESSAY: Almost everybody has encountered one or more difficult situation at some time in their life. We want to know how you dealt with one of those situations. You might choose an academic example, or a cultural one, or anything that would show us how you handle difficult situations. (If you want us to keep this essay confidential, just let us know.)
- Don't forget to send us your transcript(s) and to sign your application.
