Distinguished Visiting Scientist Lecture Series - Each Interdisciplinary Research Center runs a Distinguished Scientists' Lecture Series which provides numerous opportunities for students to interact with scientists from across the nation. As the leading seminar series at the Albany Medical College, these talks bring world-renown investigators to the Institution. Several other seminar series at the College all contribute to a stimulating, enriching environment for students and staff. Numerous opportunities exist for advanced students to present their own research as well.
Graduate Student Organization (GSO) - The GSO provides important training opportunities for students by encouraging their active participation in College governance and policy development. The GSO represents the students' interests on a series of academic committees working closely with the faculty regarding curriculum, administration and student life. In addition this organization hosts career development forums and panel discussions on careers in the ever-changing biological field. The GSO also contributes to the overall quality of life by sponsoring social hours, gatherings, dinners, and parties that are planned to encourage interactions with the faculty.
Housing - University Heights College Suites (UH College Suites) are located in the heart of the University Heights section of Albany, New York and surround the campuses of Albany Medical College, Albany College of Pharmacy, Sage College of Albany, and Albany Law School. Student Health Insurance Requirements and Immunizations - It is a New York State requirement that all students be protected by a comprehensive medical health insurance plan. Proof of such health insurance must be presented to the Graduate Studies Program Office prior to registration or coverage may be arranged through the AMC Student Health Program Office, (518) 262-5948. All students will be provided with a physical examination form and an immunization documentation form to be completed by their physician prior to matriculation.
Additional Information - The Albany Medical College also provides infirmary services and medical care for students. The College has parking lots available for students' cars. Requests for permits are obtained during the orientation process.

The winner is decided by the Research Prize Selection Committee based on faculty nominations. Prize and a certificate.
Alumni Research Awards
The winners are decided by a Committee of Senior Graduate Students, based on a review of abstracts submitted by students who are within their first or second year of studies. Prize financed and presented by the AMC Alumni Association. Two awards and certificates.
The Graduate Student Alumni Award
The winner is decided by the Alumni Association - Criteria includes scholastic ability (other awards received over the years), school loyalty (student participation in Alumni events such as the Alumni Phonathon), participation in GSO events. A committee of Alumni Association members is set up each year to decide the recipient of this award. Prize awarded (given at Graduate Student Research & Awards Day), and a plaque (given at a luncheon during Alumni Weekend in early May).
The Alumni Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice; Department of Anesthesiology
The winner is decided by the graduate faculty in the Department of Anesthesiology, based on scholastic ability, excellence in clinical performance based on clinical GPA, and the review of the student's research thesis. Prize and a certificate.
The Dr. Richard H. Edmonds Alumni Leadership Award
This award was established in 1999 by the Albany Medical College Alumni Association on the event of the retirement of Dr. Edmonds from his position as Executive Associate Dean. Its purpose is to recognize and honor leadership in student government. One award is given each year to the President of the Graduate Student Organization. The Award and certificate will be given for the first time in 2000.

The winner is decided by Graduate Student Awards Day Selection Committee, based on recommendations made by faculty members. Prize and a certificate.
The Dean's Certificates and Prizes for Excellence in Research
Winners are decided by the Graduate Student Awards Day Selection Committee, based on a review of posters and abstracts submitted by graduate students. Six awards and certificates.
The Dean's Certificate and the Frank C. Ferguson Prize for Excellence in Academic Studies
Winner based on the highest GPA of a Graduate Student (student must have taken all basic course work and passed oral qualifying exam) - reviewed and decided by the Graduate Student Awards Day Selection Committee. Prize and a certificate.
The Dean's Certificate and Richard A. Miller Alumni Prize for Outstanding Research
Winner decided by Graduate Student Awards Day Selection Committee after presentations by six Research Award Winners. Three prizes are given: First Prize, Second Prize, and Third Prize.
The Dr. Helen H. Molinari Graduate Encouragement and Merit Award
This award was established in 1997 in memory of Dr. Molinari, an outstanding educator and student advocate of Albany Medical College. The Graduate Student Organization presents this award to the staff or faculty member who consistently works above the call of duty for the benefit of the graduate student body. A certificate is presented to the awardee.
