The Albany Medical Center Plastic Surgery Residency is a fully accredited program with a strong didactic program combined with a broad surgical experience. Our aim is to train surgeons who are eligible and qualified to become Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and who have the abilities to become leaders in our specialty and in their communities.
The varied caseload and individual expertise of both the core faculty and the clinical faculty contribute to the development of a clear understanding of anatomy and pathophysiology and to the acquisition of fundamental operative skills and judgment. A significant emphasis is placed upon prudent pre-operative planning and adherence to fundamental principles.
The philosophy of our program is complete integration of plastic surgical training throughout the residency program: plastic surgery training begins on day one. In addition to a core surgery experience tailored to provide graduated responsibility for patient care and technical expertise for a broad range of surgical disciplines, a significant experience on plastic surgery services and plastic-surgery-related services is provided throughout all six years of the program.
The Plastic Surgery Division enjoys and encourages a close camaraderie amongst themselves and the residents. This pervasive attitude is transmitted to the resident staff at all levels.
