A Message from the Dean…
As Dean of Albany Medical College, I am proud to lead our institution’s commitment to help improve the nation’s health through excellence in medical education, biomedical research and patient care.
Founded in 1839, Albany Medical College espouses the tradition and prestige that comes with being one of the oldest private medical schools in the country. Yet, our approach to teaching tomorrow’s doctors, scientists and healthcare professionals is among the most innovative. Through an award-winning curriculum, the College imparts knowledge to students in the graduate and post-graduate fields of medicine and provides a collegial, nurturing environment that fosters intellectual discovery.
As traditional methods of learning, discovery and health care delivery grow increasingly complex, Albany Medical College is keeping up pace and breaking new ground. Among our greatest accomplishments are the recruitment of talented faculty and researchers of national renown; the application of new information technology to further online and virtual learning; and the expansion of our academic facility to better meet the needs of our students.
Albany Medical College programs are drawing wider attention from around the world, as was demonstrated by the nearly 9,000 applications to the medical school for 92 available entering slots in 2007. Our select student body reflects a rich diversity of interests and perspectives -- essential for today’s global society. Our clinicians are leading the way in medical firsts and surgical advances. And, importantly, our researchers are pioneering new studies at the forefront of medicine –- paving the path to more effectively treat and prevent disease.
Albany Med’s progress toward providing the highest quality of medical education, research and care will continue unabated in the years to come. We invite you to be a part of our journey.
Sincerely,
Vincent Verdile, M.D.
