Era Hanspal joined the Movement Disorders division at Albany Medical Center in 2011. She completed her residency in neurology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and had the privilege of completing two years of fellowship training at Columbia University under the direction of Dr. Stanley Fahn. Dr Fahn is considered by many of his neurological peers to be the “Father” of the movement disorders field.
Dr. Hanspal is board certified in neurology and is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, Movement Disorders Society, and Parkinson’s Study Group. Her special interests include the whole spectrum of pediatric movement disorders including neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation (NBIA).
Dr. Hanspal is the director of Huntington’s disease predictive genetic testing program at Albany Medical Center and she is an active participant in a wide variety of community outreach programs related to Huntington’s disease. She is currently working on developing a brain donation repository in collaboration with prestigious medical centers in Boston and New York City.
Although Dr. Hanspal has had impressive academic and clinical achievements thus far in her career, it is her personal touch, compassion and devotion to patients and their families that distinguishes her and makes her a favorite amongst patients and colleagues alike.
