Luke A. Pluto, M.D. is an attending physician with the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Albany Medical Center and has been appointed assistant professor in pulmonary and critical care at Albany Medical College. He is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, critical care medicine and sleep medicine. Dr. Pluto specializes in pulmonary disease but is most passionate about treating patients with sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy and other conditions.

Throughout Dr. Pluto’s medical career, he has maintained an interest in sleep disorders. During his Internal Medicine residency in Chicago, he was introduced to sleep apnea. During is Pulmonary fellowship, he was exposed to the topic of upper airway muscle innervation, and had the opportunity to observe a polysomnogram.

Dr. Pluto’s career began in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine but has focused on Sleep Medicine for the past 15 years. In the mid 1990’s, he attended three courses at the School of Sleep Medicine in Palo Alto, California. In 1997, he became a Diplomat of the American Board of Sleep Medicine.

As a Pulmonary disease specialist, Sleep Medicine is Dr. Pluto’s passion. Sleep apnea is a common condition and the Dr. Pluto finds the response to treatment to be very gratifying. In addition to sleep apnea, he deals with a full range of problems that interfere with the ability to experience restful sleep. In 2011, Dr. Pluto continued his scholarship in sleep disorders and sat for the Sleep Medicine examination offered by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

At Albany Medical Center, Dr. Pluto continues to focus on sleep disorders through teaching, research, and patient care.
