Dr. James R. Storey treats diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. Some of the more common problems that he diagnoses and treats are strokes, epilepsy (seizures), headaches, dementias (Alzheimer's disease), multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease,  chronic pain and a wide range of other neurological illnesses. Dr. Storey is the Chief of the Community Division of Neurology and is a professor of neurology at Albany Medical College. 

In 1992 Dr. Storey helped found Upstate Neurology Consultants. He is a board certified neurologist, by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), holds special qualifications in clinical neurophysiology, and has additional certification from the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Storey was also a member of the U.S. Navy, having attained the rank of Commander and received the Navy Commendation Medal in 1990.

Dr. Storey served as the Chief of Neurology for the Stroke Program at another local hospital and has served as the head for other neurological programs. He is a fellow of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. He maintains memberships in several medical societies including the following:

- American Academy of Clinical Neurophysiology
- Association of Clinical Research Professionals
- Medical Society of the State of New York

He is the author of multiple publications as well as an investigator in numerous clinical trials. His expertise is in the subspecialty of clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular disease, EEG, and EMG.
