Examination Preparations

For any questions or special instructions please call (518) 262-1244.

Mammography
Patients are requested to avoid caffeine 5 days prior to their appointment. Caffeine causes the breasts to become tender and can cause breast variations, which can make it difficult to do the mammogram. DO NOT go off prescription drugs, whether they contain caffeine or not. Please refrain from using any deodorant or body powder the day of the examination as these products may simulate calcifications and create artifacts that can be picked up in a mammogram.

Upper G.I. Series
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the evening before the exam. No smoking or gum chewing.

Barium Enema
Obtain one Fleet Prep Kit #3 from your pharmacy. Follow the instructions in the kit for the 24-hour prep. Please be advised that you may experience diarrhea for up to 4-hours after this examination.
