Louann Kuntz, Manager - PT, DPT, MEd, ATC
Dr. Kuntz is the manager of Albany Med’s Outpatient Physical Therapy Department, a position she has held since 2000. A specialist in balance and concussion, sports medicine, orthopaedics, neurology and functional rehabilitation, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role, and has worked hard during her tenure to enhance patient care.

Dr. Kuntz’s has been honored as Albany Medical Center’s Employee of the Month, an award based on nominations from across the hospital. She has presented work at numerous professional conferences and continuing education seminars, including a poster presentation on the case report “Eccentric Muscle Training With Visual Feedback to Improve External Rotation Strength in a Patient With Total Shoulder Arthroplasty” at The Sage Research Symposium. She has also appeared on several TV news segments discussing physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Prior to joining Albany Medical Center, Dr. Kuntz worked at a large outpatient clinic and has held positions at Burlington County College, Union College and the Sage Colleges as an assistant professor. She has also served as a volunteer athletic trainer at the United States Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid.

Dr. Kuntz earned two bachelor’s degrees, one in health and physical education with a specialization in athletic training from Lock Haven University, and one in physical therapy from Russell Sage College. She earned her master’s degree in health education from the College of New Jersey and her doctoral degree in physical therapy from The Sage Colleges.

Jason P. Gagnon, Supervisor - PT, DPT, CSCS
Dr. Gagnon joined Albany Medical Center in 2001 as an inpatient therapist, serving in the orthopaedic and pediatric departments. He has been a member of the Outpatient Physical Therapy team since 2002. In addition to treating patients, Dr. Gagnon helps oversee the daily operations, supervision and instruction of staff therapists and support staff.
He is an expert in prosthetic and gait training for patients with amputations, as well as the treatment of neurological impairments in patients who have spinal cord injuries and other conditions. He also specializes in treating concussions, managing the department’s concussion assessment and balance training programs, and working closely with patients and doctors at Albany Med’s Sports Medicine Concussion Clinic to help patients return safely to school, sport and work.

Dr. Gagnon has lectured at the New York State Athletic Trainers Association on the importance of core stability for the athlete, as well as given talks to the local community on proper body mechanics and posture. A research coordinator and lead therapist for the New York State Spinal Cord Injury Research Program “Implanted Neuroprostheses for Exercise, Standing and Transfers,” a study conducted by Albany Medical Center and the Cleveland FES Center, Dr. Gagnon also co-authored two published journal articles about this research.

He received his bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Syracuse University and his doctoral degree in physical therapy from Utica College. He holds an additional certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a certified strength and conditioning specialist.

Kerri L. Preston, Physical Therapist II- PT, DPT
Dr. Preston has spent more than 18 years providing high-quality care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. An expert in orthopaedic, neurological and cardiopulmonary conditions, she treats adult and pediatric patients with a variety of medical problems, always focusing on the patient as a whole person and not just the diagnosis.

Dr. Preston spent eight years overseeing Albany Med’s outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program and providing outpatient physical therapy services to hospital employees on the main campus.

She has served as an adjunct instructor at The Sage Colleges teaching cardiopulmonary physical therapy and often lectures for Albany Med’s Physician Assistant program on cardiac rehabilitation. A frequent guest speaker at medical conferences and community events, Dr. Preston lectures on the role of physical therapy in treating wounds, arthritis and diabetes, as well as the benefits of exercise and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Through Albany Med’s STEPS program, a collaboration with Albany High School and The Boy Scouts of America, Dr. Preston hosts discussions on the benefits of a higher education and what it means to be a physical therapist.

She received her degree in Physical Therapy from Russell Sage College and her doctoral degree in physical therapy from The Sage Colleges.

Heidi Fowler, Physical Therapist II- PT, DPT
Dr. Fowler joined the Albany Medical Center team in 2009. She currently serves as a Physical Therapist II and the Clinical Coordinator for student education within the Outpatient Physical Therapy Department, working closely with students and volunteers.

In her role in the Outpatient PT Department, she treats patients ranging in ages birth through adulthood, specializing in pediatrics, vestibular rehab, balance abnormalities and sport related injuries. Dr. Fowler developed and implemented a falls protocol which is utilized by all therapists at the outpatient clinic.

Her extensive sports background and continuing education allow her to better treat each patient and their impairments.

She received both her undergraduate degree in Biology and her doctoral degree in physical therapy from Utica College of Syracuse University.

Jongkyoon Kang - MSPT, DPT, CSCS
Dr. Kang specializes in manual orthopaedic techniques for spine and pelvic joint, various musculoskeletal pathologies, post-surgical rehabilitation and sport-related injuries. He joined the Outpatient Physical Therapy team in 2013, bringing a wealth of experience from his previous work in various outpatient settings. He is fluent in Korean and English and offers a very personalized approach to patient care.

Dr. Kang works with adult and pediatric patients, and especially enjoys helping athletes improve their quality of life and athletic performance.

He received his master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Pittsburgh and completed an internship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Medicine complex, working with Division I athletes. Dr. Kang received his doctoral degree in physical therapy from Utica College. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist and a certified Kinesio tape practitioner.

Kyle Bigney – PT, DPT
Dr. Bigney joined the Outpatient Physical Therapy team in 2012, after completing an internship in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago with that nation’s National and Olympic team athletes.

Dr. Bigney has a specialized knowledge of techniques that use instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization to treat orthopaedic injuries. He specializes in treating patients with sports-related injuries and concussions, as well as the elderly population. His doctoral research has been published in the journal Back and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation.
Dr. Bigney assists in the department’s concussion assessment and balance program, working closely with patients and doctors from Albany Med’s Sports Medicine Concussion Clinic to help patients with concussion safely return to school, sport and work.

Dr. Bigney earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the State University of New York at Cortland and his doctoral degree in physical therapy from Utica College.

Courtney Van Norden –PT, DPT
Dr. Van Norden is an expert in treating many versed diagnoses, such as neurological impairments, chronic back pain, sacroiliac dysfunction and athletic injuries. She also has a specialized knowledge of the McKenzie Method of physical therapy and exercise for back and neck pain.

Dr. Van Norden came to Albany Med in 2012, after working at a private outpatient clinic. She takes pride in offering patients high-quality, personalized care that helps them achieve their goals and return to full activity.

A dedicated athlete, Dr. Van Norden enjoys snowboarding, high-peak hiking, running and bicycling. Her extensive sports background helps inform her treatment of patients with sports-related injuries.

She received bachelor’s degree in human biology from the State University of New York at Albany and a doctoral degree in physical therapy from Sage Graduate School.

Carin Cappadocia - PT, DPT
Dr. Cappadocia specializes in pelvic health. She works with pediatric and adult patients who have orthopaedic, urologic, gynecological and colorectal dysfunctions.

She began her pelvic floor training during her second year of graduate school, completing a clinical rotation in pelvic floor physical therapy. Her training was completed through the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, and her expertise in the field has made her a health-care leader in the Capital Region.

Dr. Cappadocia is currently researching aquatic therapy at The Sage Graduate School. She has published work on the improvements of balance with aquatic therapy and body-weight support treadmill training.

An active runner and triathlete, Dr. Cappadocia teaches swimming stroke technique, and enjoys skiing and hiking. Her extensive sports background helps inform her treatment of patients with sports-related injuries.

Dr. Cappadocia received a Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Albany and a doctoral degree in physical therapy from The Sage Graduate School.

Christina Bailie - MSPT, DPT
Christina Bailie is a physical therapy specialist with a background in both pediatric and adult care. In her role in the Outpatient Physical Therapy department, she provides services to infants and adults, and offers specialized knowledge on manual treatment, balance and vestibular therapy.

Bailie worked in sub-acute rehabilitation before she came to Albany Med, and served as a supervisor at a skilled nursing facility in Alabama.

She received her master’s degree in physical therapy, with minors in nutrition and gerontology, at Ithaca College. She earned her doctoral degree in physical therapy from the Sage Colleges.

Huijuan Xu, Physical Therapy Assistant - PTA
Huijuan Xu works with adult and pediatric patients in the Outpatient Physical Therapy department, and offers specialized knowledge to those with a history of low back pain and neck pain with headaches. She places a strong emphasis on correct posture and functional exercise in order to return her patients to the highest level of function possible. Fluent in Mandarin and English, Xu has taken continuing education classes in manual therapy techniques and uses them to achieve the best possible outcome for her patients.
Prior to moving to the United States to pursue a career in physical therapy, Xu taught biochemistry at Yan Cheng Health College in China.

She received her medical degree from Nanjing Medical School and her associate’s degree in physical therapy from Maria College.
 
Andrea H. Hughes, Physical Therapy Assistant- PTA
Andrea Hughes joined the Outpatient Physical Therapy team in 2008. She has a specialized knowledge of manual therapy, orthopaedic and neurological injuries, and aquatic therapy. A dedicated practitioner of patient-centered care, Hughes tailors each patient’s program to meet their specific needs.

She regularly attends continuing education seminars and workshops, and her interest in sports and strength training (pilates, yoga, Tai Chi, core stability and neuromuscular re-education) help inform her approach to patient care.

Hughes earned her associates degree in physical therapy from Maria College.

Matt Greene, Physical Therapy Aide - MEd, CSCS, FMS
Matt Greene joined the Outpatient Physical Therapy team in 2008. He has specialized knowledge of strength and conditioning training and is highly focused on patient-centered care.

While working full-time at the clinic, Greene has taught two semesters of exercise physiology at The Sage Colleges. He also serves as the head strength and conditioning coach for Sage’s men’s soccer team and women’s basketball team.
Greene earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Springfield College and a master’s degree in education, with a concentration in sport science and nutrition from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and is also certified in functional movement screen.
