Neuropsychology

Services

Each patient undergoes a comprehensive evaluation tailored to their unique circumstances, and the results are reviews and discussed by the team in order to identify the best possible treatment options.

Services provided by our neuropsychologist include:

Cognitive assessments
Many of the disorders that affect the brain can cause difficulties with processing-thinking, reasoning, judgment, understanding and memory. A cognitive assessment is used to determine the specific nature of these problems and their severity. The information obtained during the assessment is used to help make a correct diagnosis and prognosis, and to track the effectiveness of treatment.

Deep brain stimulation candidacy
Deep brain stimulation involves implantation of electrodes into the brain in an effort to control the symptoms of certain movement disorders like Parkinson’s disease. Neuropsychological testing is an essential component in the determination of the potential risks and benefits of this surgery. Tests are used to identify cognitive difficulties and help determine the likelihood that this surgery will improve quality of life.

Epilepsy surgery candidacy
Epilepsy surgery involves identification and removal of a part of the brain that is causing seizures. Neuropsychological testing is an essential component in the determination of the potential risks and benefits of this surgery. Tests are used to determine if the area to be removed is functioning normally or not, and to predict the risk associated with removal of that area.
