InMotion Robot

Albany Medical Center is the only hospital in the region that offers patients robotic technology designed to assist, enhance, and quantify neuro-rehabilitation. This robotic technology, known as the InMotion Robot, has been proven to significantly help restore and retrain a patient's arm function. The robot-aided therapy is typically used by patients undergoing stroke rehabilitation.

Patient uses the MIT-Manus Robot.
Stroke patients use the InMotion Robot aided therapy system to regain motor skills.

The InMotion Robot utilizes interactive, user-friendly clinical devices designed not only to evaluate patients, but also to deliver meaningful therapy via engaging “video games.”

When using the InMotion Robot, a patient sits at a table and puts their lower arm and wrist into a brace attached to the arm of the robot. A video screen prompts the patient to perform an arm exercise, such as connecting the dots. If movement does not occur, the InMotion Robot moves the patient's arm. If the patient starts to move their arm on their own, the robot provides adjustable levels of assistance to facilitate the arm movement.
