Spinal Disorders - Thoracic Spondylosis, Disc Disease
Thoracic spondylosis, or disc degeneration, is the narrowing of the disc between vertebrae. Spondylosis in the thoracic region of the spine is a condition that occurs in older patients. As disc degeneration occurs, a variety of symptoms begin to appear. Pain in the mid-section, including the chest and upper abdominal is common. Other signs of thoracic spondylosis may include muscle weakness and tingling.
Albany Med Advantage
The Neurosciences Institute spine specialists offer patients with thoracic spondylosis a number of diagnostic and treatment options. Although symptoms and a physical examination may show signs of thoracic spondylosis, specialists of the Neurosciences Institute may suggest imaging tests be performed to confirm a diagnosis of thoracic spondylosis. These can include a neck or spinal X-ray, CT scan, MRI, or myelograms all of which trained medical professionals are experts at performing.
For the non-surgical treatment of thoracic spondylosis, a multidisciplinary approach is typically used involving physical therapy, pain management, and physiatry. If surgery is required, expert neurosurgeons of the Neurosciences Institute are specifically trained in treating thoracic spondylosis.
