Vascular Access Program

Co-Director: Gary Siskin, MD
Co-Director: Arif Asif, MD

Vascular access continues to be a major component of chronic hemodialysis patient care. Over 30% of the admissions of end stage renal disease are due to the complications of dialysis access and over a billion dollars are spent annually to manage these problems. Over the past decade, the scientific work of Gary Siskin (Chairman: Department of Radiology) and Arif Asif (Chief: Division of Nephrology and Hypertension) has focused on dialysis access interventions that minimize the cost and simultaneously improve patient care. At Albany Medical College, both leaders have teamed up to take on the challenge of vascular access and employ the cutting edge technology. The collaborative vascular access program has initiated much needed research, teaching and training opportunities for national and international physicians.
