Healing Arts - Energetic Interventions

Healing Touch, Reiki, and Therapeutic Touch are different forms of energy interventions utilizing universal energy.  They have more similarities than differences.  All are easily adapted into self care and holistic care by nursing professionals and complementary care practitioners.

Healing Touch

Diane Stredny performs healing touch.

The Healing Touch program was developed by Janet Mentgen, RN, BSN.  It is an international certification program requiring years of study including a yearlong mentorship.  Healing Touch is endorsed by the American Holistic Nursing Association.

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key)
Reiki originates in the East where it has been practiced for over 5,000 years.  The innate widsdom of the body directs where the energy will be used to stimulate the body's capacity to heal itself.

Therapeutic Touch
Therapeutic Touch was developed by Delores Krieger, PhD, RN and Dora Kunz in the early 1970s.  The projection of energy during Therapeutic Touch helps the body to function as a whole in an orderly way.

Emotional Freedom Techniques
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an alternative therapy that uses tapping to stimulate certain meridian points (acupuncture points) to provide physical and/or emotional relief.

Energetic Interventions are used to treat a variety of medical conditions.

Pain Management:
Headache relief, back pain, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, and sport/work injuries.

Specific techniques designed to enhance relaxation and respond to decrease pain, work together to restore energy flow, which may be experienced as pain relief.

Pre and Post Operative Intervention:
Anxiety, wound healing, pain managment, altered body image and improved sleep.

Energy work prior to surgery can decrease anxiety and mobilize energy for the upcoming procedure.  Post operative interventions can help to manage pain, decrease anxiety, and speed the body's capacity to heal the surgical site.

Physical Traumas:
Joint and muscular injuries, fractures, and wounds.

An acute traumatic event reponds well to energetic therapies.  Quick intervention at the time of the injury or soon after reduces the cascade of physical damage.

Emotional Traumas:
Anxiety, grief, depression, life transitions, childhood issues, addiction, and eating disorders.

Energetic interventions may help move energy blockages which impede the body's ability to move through life's issues.
