Albany Med's Emergency Department features private rooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology and consists of four “mini emergency rooms” within the larger facility. Areas are specifically designated for pediatrics, trauma, minor emergencies and critical care. Each area has its own nursing station and equipment, including smaller equipment specifically designed for pediatric patients, and a separate waiting area for children. 

Because Albany Med is the region’s designated level one trauma center, patients have access to the latest technology and specialists who can address their unique needs quickly. In addition, Albany Med has:

  • 24-hour availability for cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery backup
  • 24-hour stroke care team
  • a critical care and air-medical transport helicopter based on-site
  • the region's only pediatric critical care and intensive care units
