Education Services
Our Mission: To provide individualized support that helps people successfully manage their diabetes.
The American Diabetes Association's Standards of Care recommends yearly diabetes education and nutrition counseling.
The Goodman Diabetes Service has nurse, dietitian, and pharmacist diabetes educators (see Physicians and Staff page for more information). The educators and medical providers work as a team. Diabetes self-management education at the Goodman Diabetes Service is provided individually, at either your or your physician's request, and is tailored to meet your unique and current needs. The educator will ask you questions about your lifestyle and diabetes self-care. We need to get to know you, so that together we can create a self-care plan that works for you. We are diabetes experts; you are an expert on your life and situation. Family and friends are welcome to attend and participate in education visits with you.
Diabetes educators are health professionals who teach people with diabetes about nutrition, exercise, medication, monitoring, and adjusting to diabetes. Education is at the heart of diabetes self-care.
You may or may not see your provider at your scheduled visit with an educator. If you see only the educator, this visit is billed as either diabetes education or medical nutrition therapy. Some health plans do not cover these services. Call 518-262-5185 if you would like our fee schedule.
It is your responsibility to check:
- whether your health plan covers diabetes education and medical nutrition therapy;
- any limits to your receiving this service... such as number of visits you are allowed, if you need a referral or prior authorization, etc.
We look forward to working with you!
