Matthew C. Leinung, MD, FACE

Dr. Leinung is Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism.  He received his BS degree from Duke University in North Carolina and also attended medical school in North Carolina, at Wake Forest University.  He did his residency at Greenwich Hospital of Yale University and his endocrinology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.  He joined the Albany Medical Center staff in 1991 and became Division Head in 1996. 

He has been the principal investigator on many research studies, and has a special interest in leptin (a hormone), with regard to its potential in the management of diabetes mellitus and human obesity.  He is an active volunteer for the American Diabetes Association, and currently serves as the President of the Northeastern Division.
