James Desemone, MD, FACE

Dr. Desemone is Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Goodman Diabetes Service.  He is originally from Buffalo, NY.  He received his BA degree from Canisius College of Buffalo and his MD degree from Upstate Medical College in Syracuse, NY.  He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo Affiliated Hospitals and served as Chief Medical Resident at Buffalo General Hospital in 1985. 

His specialty training in diabetes and endocrinology was at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester. After several years on staff at UMass,  Dr. Desemone joined the staff of Albany Medical Center in 1996. 

 

He has a special interest in the care of inpatients with diabetes.  His research interests include evaluating clinical outcomes and improving diabetes treatment strategies, the genetics of diabetes and its complications, and continuous monitoring of glucose and other metabolites.

 

He is a long-time volunteer in both the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the American Diabetes Association, and has served on the Scientific Advisory Board of the JDRF.
