When a child needs an x-ray, ultrasound, a CT scan or an MRI the considerations are very different than for an adult. We believe it is essential that a child receive the lowest dose of radiation possible. That is why we adhere to the “Image Gently” guidelines of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging, which include special protocols that keep radiation levels as low as possible while still achieving high-quality images.
Albany Med’s board-certified pediatric radiologists and radiology technicians employ techniques and technology proven to expedite the imaging process and minimize exposure to radiation. This begins by caring for infants and children in a dedicated environment, designed and equipped with the latest technology and equipment specifically designed and calibrated for pediatric use.
We are very sensitive to the challenges of imaging infants and young children, who may be unable to hold still or be frightened by the equipment used. We also focus on the child’s experience, and employ age-appropriate distraction techniques to try to comfort and relax patients before and during each procedure. This helps us obtain high quality images efficiently, without the need to repeat examinations. Parents can be assured that their children are receiving top notch medical care and regard for their emotional well-being.
All pediatric images are reviewed and analyzed by specific subspecialty radiologists who provide accurate diagnoses in a timely fashion.
