Diagnosis & Treatments

In order to evaluate and diagnose respiratory diseases in children, we may order one or more of the same tests listed below. Some of the tests are performed in the clinic, while others are completed at the hospital or in a diagnostic center. These tests include:
  • Chest, sinus, or airway x-rays
  • Pulmonary function tests
  • Exhaled nitric oxide test
  • Pulse oximetry (to measure oxygen levels in the blood)
  • Blood tests
  • Sweat chloride test (to rule out cystic fibrosis)
  • Bronchoscopy (to visualize the airways)
  • Barium swallow or pH probe (to rule out gastroesophageal reflux)

We do not perform allergy skin tests or sleep studies as part of our practice, but will refer you to local centers for these tests if they are necessary.
