The Melodies Center

The Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders

The Melodies Center treats and evaluates a variety of patients, some with blood disorders such as sickle cell disease and hemophilia and others with more serious childhood cancer problems.

As members of Children's Oncology Group (COG),, our physicians have access to the latest advances in pediatric cancer research and participate in numerous national and international clinical trials. The Child Cancer Program has dedicated clinical research associates, and follows the same strict protocols and offers the same advanced treatment and care as all 200 COG member hospitals, providing our children and families the same care they would otherwise need to travel outside the area to receive.

A dedicated staff of six pediatric hematologists/oncologists, highly trained chemotherapy nurses, a pediatric social worker, a child life specialist, and the support of all of Albany Medical Center's pediatric subspecialists who provide care. We treat 70 new cancer patients per year as well as 500 other new patients with a variety of blood disorders. On any given day, there is an average of eight children receiving inpatient care at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital and dozens who receive chemotherapy and other treatments as outpatients in The Melodies Center. In a year there are more than 6,000 visits to the Center.
