Welcome to the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is the only unit of its kind in the 25 counties served by Albany Med.  We understand that the illness of a child can be a very stressful time for families.  Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of trained nurses and doctors are here to assist you - 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

Albany Med's PICU offers an exceptional array of features and staff:

  • 17 single-patient rooms, including two isolation-rooms
  • 4 Pediatric Intensivists
  • Over 50 Critical Care Nurses
  • A team of respiratory care therapists, social workers, psychologists and nearly three dozen pediatric sub-specialists who serve as consultants as their expertise is needed.

These professionals are extensively trained in this highly specialized medical discipline and provide round-the-clock monitoring and medical attention to children who are brought to the facility from the entire service area.

Each year the Children's Hospital provides intensive care for nearly 1,300 children and delivers treatment for a wide range of physical ailments and injuries including:

  • Trauma
  • Birth defects
  • Respiratory illness
  • Heart disease
  • Infectious disease
  • Neurological illness and injuries
  • Poisoning
  • Child abuse
