Pediatric Nephrology (Kidney Disease)

Welcome

The Section of Pediatric Nephrology evaluates infants, children and adolescents with diverse disorders of the urinary tract, including hematuria, proteinuria, nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, hypertension, acute and chronic renal failure. Our experts collaborate closely with pediatric urologists in the care of patients with urinary tract infections and kidney stones.

The Albany Medical Center Advantage
Albany Medical Center offers the only Pediatric Dialysis Unit in the Capital Region. Three pediatric dialysis nurses, a social worker and a renal dietitian care for children with endstage renal disease, under the direction of the pediatric nephrologists. The pediatric dialysis team is well versed in all dialysis modalities, including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis in infants.

Kidney/Pancreas Transplant Program
The Pediatric Nephrology section also works closely with the Kidney/Pancreas Transplant Program team in the follow-up of children who have received a kidney transplant.

Education
Both section members participate in the Albany Medical Center's mission of education by teaching pediatric interns and residents, as well as third and fourth year medical students.

Research
Current research efforts include participation in the North American Pediatric Renal Transplant Cooperative Study, the largest database on children with chronic renal failure.
