Part of what makes the Children's Hospital so special is the work of Child Life Specialists. These baccalaureate educated, certified professionals work in the pediatric health care setting to ensure that children who are hospitalized maintain as "normal" of a life as possible.
The child life specialists are concerned with the developmental, psychosocial, educational and recreational needs of the hospitalized children and work to prevent and reduce psychological/emotional stress associated with hospitalization. Part of their approach also includes pre-admission tours for children, siblings and families and the coordination of in-hospital and home tutoring services.
