    • Two years ago Dr. Green introduced ultrasound for peripheral nerve block, in regional anesthesia.  He uses this for all of his peripheral blocks and also teaches this to our residents.  Use of ultrasound permits more accurate insertion of the regional block needle and local anesthetic.  This reduces the number of needle punctures, reduces patient discomfort, and increases success rates for peripheral blocks.  It enhances the ability to provide the benefits of regional anesthesia for intraop anesthesia and post-op analgesia.  He provides single injection peripheral nerve blocks and also provides catheter infusion techniques which permit continuous infusions for many days after the surgery.  This also provides better analgesia with less side effects than conventional narcotic based techniques such as traditional intravenous narcotics.
