Center for Donation and Transplant
The Center for Donation and Transplant (CDT) is dedicated to increasing organ and tissue donation by:-
Facilitating the procurement and equitable distribution of medically suitable organs and tissue for transplantation.
Since 1969, the Transplant Program at Albany Med has performed nearly 2,000 kidney transplants. - Ensuring that the option of donation is offered to the family in an informative and compassionate manner.
- Providing long term support and comfort to families and hospital personnel involved in the donation process.
- Educating the medical profession and community at large.
CDT is one of 57 federally designated organ procurement organizations. CDT coordinates the retrieval of donor organs and tissue at more than 48 hospitals throughout central and northeastern New York state and western Vermont. CDT ensures that the option of donation is offered to the family in an informative and compassionate manner, and provides long-term support and comfort to families and hospital personnel involved in the donation process. Being the primary source of information on organ and tissue donation in the region it serves, CDT is responsible for educating the medical profession and the community at large.
CDT is a member of the United Network for Organ Sharing, which houses the national computer system for patients waiting for transplant and also is a member of the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations. The primary function of the CDT is to recover, preserve, and transport vital organs to patients on the national waiting list. The CDT is the primary source for organ and tissue donor information in the region that it serves and is available for community and professional programs.
