For individuals who have lost a large amount of weight and who have loose or sagging skin around their thighs, hips, and buttocks, a thigh lift may be an appropriate option. Thigh lift surgery reshapes thighs by reducing excess skin resulting in smoother and proportionate contours of the thighs and lower body.
A thigh lift is performed under general anesthesia. The procedure involves small incisions in the inner thigh and groin area; or in some instances, a thigh lift involves the area around the outer thigh and buttocks. In both types of thigh lift, the tissue will be reshaped and tightened, and skin will be reduced and re-draped.
Your Albany Medical Center plastic surgeon will determine which incision technique is most appropriate for you.
Immediately following a thigh lift, a supportive garment is worn to help compress the surgical area. It will also help to reduce swelling and allow the skin around the surgical area to return to its natural tightness. Within several weeks, swelling and bruising will subside. Within five to six weeks, thigh-lift patients can resume most normal activities. In four to six months, visible results are achieved.
