Chemical Peel

Chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. Chemical peel treatments are intended to improve the appearance of the skin for individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. It’s important to consult with your Albany Medical Center plastic surgeon to find the specific peel program that’s right for you.

The Procedure
There are a variety of chemical peels available to patients who want to improve the appearance of their facial skin. A chemical peel is performed in an outpatient setting, and may be done under local anesthesia depending on the type of peel performed. Chemical peels may take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour to perform.

The Recovery
The recovery process of chemical peels varies. It is common to experience some temporary flaking or scaling, redness and dryness of the skin. However, these conditions will subside as the skin adjusts to treatment. After a deeper peel, mild pain medication may be prescribed to relieve any tingling or throbbing that may occur. A crust or scab will form on the treated area. Follow your Albany Medical Center plastic surgeon’s specific postoperative instructions to help your face heal properly.
