At Albany Medical Center, our young patients with congenital heart defects have access to a surgical program that treats the entire spectrum of congenital heart disease. Dr. Neil Devejian has performed over 1000 operations for congenital heart defects

With most congenital heart defects, the primary objective is to perform a single, completely corrective operation early in life - often in the neonatal period. Our emphasis is not simply on survival, but on performing high quality operations to ensure minimal morbidity, decreased length of hospital stay and provide durable repairs which maximize the quality of life and minimize the need for reinterventions.  Our success rates for all types of congenital heart surgery match or exceed those achieved at the most prestigious centers worldwide.

As our program's fulltime on-site pediatric cardiac surgeon, Dr. Neil Devejian, devotes his expertise to the care of children with congenital heart defects. Dr. Devejian has performed over 1000 operations for congenital heart defects during the course of his distinguished career. He is joined by an OR team with extensive pediatric surgical experience. Dr. Devejian also serves as Co-Director of the Congenital Heart Program. As such, his involvement in patient care goes well beyond the operating room. He is intimately involved in caring for patients every step of the way - both pre- and post-operatively.

When it comes to successful outcomes, Albany Medical Center stands apart from other state hospitals in our surgical treatment of congenital heart defects.  According to New York's Department of Health, Albany Medical Center has the lowest mortality rate in the state for surgery performed on infants and children with congenital heart disease.
