The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery of The Heart Institute is committed to take a leadership role in the patient care, resident and student education, and biomedical research.
The Albany Med Advantage
Formally established at Albany Medical Center in 1953, the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery has evolved into the leading center for technical innovation and education in cardiac and general thoracic surgery in the Capital Region.
Innovative programs in patient care and sophisticated clinical investigation in both cardiac and general thoracic surgery are actively pursued. State-of -the-art clinical services include the most advanced forms of coronary bypass surgery and valve repair/replacement, laser coronary revascularization.
Offering Innovative Technology and Advanced Procedures
The division also offers the regions only formal programs in artificial heart and mechanical circulatory support, heart transplantation and congenital heart surgery. Programs in port access, robotic, and arrhythmia surgery are also in place.
