Albany Med Surgeons Move to Surgeons Pavilion at 50 New Scotland Ave

The landscape around Albany Medical Center continues to change as the clinical and administrative offices of several divisions of Albany Med's Department of Surgery move to the Surgeons Pavilion—a new building at 50 New Scotland Ave. directly across from the Medical Center.

The new Albany Medical Center Surgeons Pavilion will have the surgical specialties of: cardiac surgery, colorectal surgery, general surgery, minimally invasive surgery, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, surgical oncology, thoracic surgery and transplant surgery. Patients will be seen at 50 New Scotland Ave. for office visits and some outpatient procedures. Parking is available in an adjacent 1,500-space garage at 40 New Scotland Ave. Patients can also contact their individual doctor’s office for more information. Most surgical procedures will still be performed inside the hospital or at Albany Med’s South Clinical Campus

Breast surgery and bariatric surgery offices will remain at Albany Med’s South Clinical Campus and vascular surgery and neurosurgery will continue to see patients in Albany Med’s Physicians Pavilion.

The new surgical offices are positioned close to where Albany Med is currently constructing a major new Patient Tower, which will house state-of-the-art operating and recovery rooms as well as enhanced intensive care units and general patient rooms. The surgery offices at 50 New Scotland will be connected via a walkway when the Patient Tower is completed in 2013.

The new building is part of the City of Albany and Albany Med’s efforts to revitalize New Scotland Avenue. In recent years, four new office buildings have been constructed, as well as the new parking garage. The centerpiece is the six-story, $360 million Patient Pavilion, —the largest expansion initiative in Albany Med’s history. Also located at 50 New Scotland Ave. is a Panera Bread restaurant.

Albany Med’s department of surgery encompasses the breadth of surgical specialties, with clinical expertise and training programs in general surgery, vascular surgery, neurological surgery, urology, cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric surgery, otolaryngology, and minimally invasive surgery. As the region’s Level 1 Trauma Center, surgeons also provide comprehensive surgical care to trauma victims.
