Sports Injuries

Despite the many benefits of sports participation, there is also a risk of injury. Shoulders, knees and ankles are the most common body parts injured during sports activities.

Sports injuries can be classified into two categories: traumatic and overuse injuries.  Traumatic injuries are sustained by sudden, high levels of stress on the body through impact or sudden changes in movement; injuries from overuse are sustained over a short or long period of time due to continuous use of body parts without enough time for recovery.

Common sports injuries seen by the Sports and Exercise Medicine physicians include:

  • Concussion
  • Dislocations
  • Fractures
  • Joint injuries
  • Sprains and strains
  • Swollen muscles
  • Tendon injuries

Our physicians are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of sports-related injuries.
