- The Neurosciences Institute's Department of Neurology at Albany Medical Center consists of 10 fulltime adult neurologists and three pediatric neurologists. All are Board-certified in Neurology. This specialty deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the nervous system. Patients are seen in consultation through referral by your primary physician or other physician specialist.
- The Department of Neurology is easily accessible by any of the elevator banks on the main floor. Parking is free provided you pick up a validation sticker at the time of your check out.

- The Division of Neurosurgery at Albany Medical Center consists of 4 fulltime adult neurosurgeons and one pediatric neurosurgeon. All are Board-certified in Neurosurgery. This specialty deals with the surgical side of the neurosciences- a sample of which includes carpal tunnel, back surgery, epilepsy surgery, head and neck cancer and brain surgery. Patients are seen in consultation through referral by your primary physician or other physician specialist.
- Parking is free provided you pick up a validation sticker at the time of your appointment.
Office Hours
Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Telephones answered 8:30 a.m. and 4:30pm.
- If you call during other than office hours, our answering service will take the call. We ask that only those calls that concern medical emergencies are made during the off hours. We do utilize an automated answering service during the day. Please listen carefully to the menu options to ensure that you are connected properly.
- OUR PHYSICIANS ARE ALWAYS WILLING TO DISCUSS YOUR CONCERNS AND WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO RETURN YOUR CALL WITHIN 24 HOURS.
Nursing Services
- The Neurosciences Institute is comprised of a staff of experienced, caring professionals (physicians assistant, nurse practioners, nurses, and medical assistants), performing a wide variety of duties including:
- Taking patient calls during the day
- Assisting patients with problems and conveying information to the physician
- Please be assured that all therapies and recommendations given by the nurses over the telephone have been discussed with, and approved by, the physician.
- Please feel free to rely on the nurses for answers to routine questions regarding medicines, test results, appointments, etc.
Prescription Renewal
- Renewals should be requested at the office visits when possible. Please check your bottles and renewals prior to your visit.
- Routine renewals should not be called in on nights and weekends.
- 24-hour notice is required for calling in prescriptions to your pharmacy.
- Prescriptions for controlled substances are mailed, so please allow sufficient time for requesting same.
Waiting in Office
- We realize that your time is valuable. All efforts are taken to ensure that you are seen in a timely fashion. Please remember that patients are seen by appointment only. If you have been waiting longer than 30 minutes, please let the receptionist know.
Appointment Cancellations / Late Appointments
- We understand that appointments are missed due to unforeseen circumstances, i.e., bad weather, illness, etc. However, whenever possible, we would appreciate notification of cancellation at least 24 hours in advance so that we may reschedule another patient in that time slot. If you are more than 30 minutes late for your appointment, we reserve the right to reschedule your visit for another date.
Insurance
- Albany Med's Neurosciences Institute participates with most insurance companies. We also accept Medicare assignment.
- If you have other private insurance, we will submit a claim on your behalf.
- Co-pay is required at the time of the visit. We are happy to assist you in submitting claims and answering questions.
- We believe that good health care does not depend on financial concerns. Payment arrangements can always be made on request. Questions about your bill can be directed to the Patient Billing Services at (518) 786-8921
Referrals
- It is the patient's responsibility to obtain a current referral which is needed at the time of the visit. We will work with you to obtain a current referral. However, if your referral is not current at the time of your visit, you will be required to sign a waiver and you will be responsible for the bill.
