Dr. Gibbons to Head New Division of Pediatric Neurology at Albany Med
ALBANY, N.Y., July 13, 2007 - Vincent P. Gibbons, M.D., a pediatric neurologist, has joined the department of neurology at Albany Medical Center. As the head of the new division of pediatric neurology, Dr. Gibbons will oversee the clinical, educational, and research missions of the division.
"We are excited to have Dr. Gibbons on board at a time when there is a nationwide shortage of pediatric neurologists," said Michael Gruenthal, M.D., Ph.D., chairman of the department of neurology. "His extensive training and experience in treating a wide range of pediatric neurological disorders will provide more specialized care for the children in our region and their families."
Dr. Gibbons is an expert in treating pediatric patients with epilepsy - the leading neurological disorder among children. He also specializes in the treatment of cerebral palsy, headache and stroke.
Dr. Gibbons previously served as associate clinical professor of pediatrics and neurology at the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco, California. A widely published physician, Dr. Gibbons is a graduate of Harvard College and received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He performed his clinical residency in pediatrics at Children's Hospital National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Gibbons completed a fellowship in pediatric neurology at the George Washington University Medical Center as well as fellowships in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology at the Children's Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Gibbons is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, American Academy of Clinical Neurophysiology and the American Epilepsy Society.
Dr. Gibbons resides in Altamont with his wife, Marcellina Murphy-Gibbons, and their three children
