Albany Med's Dr. A. John Popp to Lead World Academy of Neurological Surgeons
Albany, N.Y., September 10, 2007 - A. John Popp, M.D., Henry and Sally Schaffer Chair of Surgery, head of neurosurgery and co-director of the Neurosciences Institute at Albany Medical Center, was selected as president-elect of the World Academy of Neurological Surgeons at a recent meeting in Verona, Italy. The group, made up of leading neurosurgeons from around the world, studies and analyzes trends in neurosurgery worldwide and subsequently makes decisions on policy and educational goals. His term begins in 2009.
Dr. Popp also is president of the Society of Neurological Surgeons, the oldest neurosurgical society in the world and past president of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the largest neurosurgical society in the world. Dr. Popp also was recently selected as a member of the Residency Review Committee for neurological surgery of the American Council of Graduate Medical Education. The RRC is the national organization that accredits residency training programs.
Dr. Popp lives in Slingerlands, N.Y. and is married to Margaret Vosburgh.
