Dancing in the Woods Raises $425,000 for Melodies Center
ALBANY, N.Y., December 17, 20112—The 29th annual Dancing in the Woods winter gala raised more than $425,000 to benefit the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.
“Each year, Dancing in the Woods is an incredibly successful fundraising event for our Children’s Hospital. The 2012 event was no exception,” said Terri Cerveny, senior vice president for development at Albany Med. “On behalf of our patients, their families, and the entire staff of Albany Medical Center, we thank our volunteers and our generous community for again helping to make this night a wonderful success.”
More than 1,200 guests attended the December 7 event held on the 7th floor of the Riverview Center in Menands. Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers, the empty space was transformed into an elegant winter wonderland. For the 12th consecutive year, Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan (CDPHP) was the title sponsor.
Money raised at the event helps support the highly specialized services and staff available at the Melodies Center, the only institution in our region designed specifically to care for patients and families as they deal with childhood cancer and related blood disorders.
More than 900 children receive care at the Melodies Center each year. The team includes four pediatric hematologist/oncologists, a physician assistant, a nurse practitioner, highly trained chemotherapy nurses, a pediatric social worker, and a child life specialist. In addition, the program is supported by all of Albany Medical Center’s pediatric subspecialists.
