Albany Med Recognized for Quality Endoscopy Services

ALBANY, N.Y., Nov. 19, 2013 — Albany Medical Center’s Digestive Disease Center has been recognized for providing high-quality endoscopy services by The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).

This is the second time the Digestive Disease Center has received this recognition.

“Albany Med provides expert care for the full range of digestive conditions with the most advanced technology and techniques available,” said Catherine Bartholomew, M.D., chief of the Division of Gastroenterology. “We are proud to receive this recognition for our quality and safety.”

The Digestive Disease Center at Albany Med is comprised of a team of board-certified gastroenterologists and nurse practitioners who provide expert diagnostic evaluation and treatment of all gastrointestinal and liver disorders, including: screening for colon and esophageal cancer; inflammatory bowel diseases; Crohn’s and colitis; swallowing disorders; Barrett’s esophagus; pancreatic and bile duct cancers; liver diseases; hepatitis and tumors, and GI disorders specific to women’s health.

Albany Med is the only hospital in the region to offer diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures and studies for children.

Albany Medical Center, northeastern New York’s only academic health sciences center, is one of the largest private employers in the Capital Region. It incorporates the 734-bed Albany Medical Center Hospital, which offers the widest range of medical and surgical services in the region, and the Albany Medical College, which trains the next generation of doctors, scientists and other healthcare professionals, and also includes a biomedical research enterprise and the region’s largest physicians practice with nearly 400 doctors. Albany Medical Center works with dozens of community partners to improve the region’s health and quality of life.
